Even in the middle of grief, some moments cannot pass unnoticed. Rebecca Gayheart shared an emotional post on Instagram to celebrate the 16th birthday of her daughter, just days after the passing of her husband, Eric Dane.
The tribute came shortly after the Grey’s Anatomy star died on February 19 at the age of 53 following a battle with ALS.
Despite the painful circumstances, Gayheart chose to focus on her daughter’s milestone. She posted a touching throwback photo of Billie as a baby. In the image, the little girl is smiling widely, wearing a denim overall dress, a large pink flower in her hair, and holding a bright pink ice cream cone.
Alongside the photo, Gayheart wrote a heartfelt message.
“Happy 16th birthday to the sweetest girl! Mommy loves you to the moon and back unconditionally, forever and ever.”
The post quickly resonated with followers, many of whom expressed support for the family during such a difficult time.
Dane and Gayheart had been together for many years. The couple married in 2004 and later welcomed two daughters — Billie, now 16, and Georgia, 14. Earlier this year, the pair had even called off their divorce in March, shortly before Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2024.
For fans, the birthday message felt especially moving. In the middle of loss, Gayheart chose to celebrate life — honoring her daughter while quietly remembering the man they had just lost.
