A 70-year-old woman who recently gave birth to twins has revealed the very first photos of her miracle babies.
Safina Namukwaya, as her doctor calls her, returned home with her newborns—a boy and a girl—after delivering them via C-section on November 29. Each baby weighed 2.2 kg, and both were discharged from the hospital on January 6.
According to her physician, Safina is a loving and playful mother who can’t take her eyes off her little ones. She named her daughter Shakira Babirye Nabagala and her son Kato Shafik Kangawe. In her village, she’s now affectionately known as “Nalongo” (mother of twins), while her husband is called “Salongo” (father of twins).
Despite her age, Safina is in good health, with normal blood pressure and no diabetes. Her doctor says she has become a symbol of inspiration across Africa, even suggesting she could continue treatment if she wished to try for another child.
The babies are thriving, feeding on both formula and breast milk. Safina also cares for her 3-year-old daughter, receiving help from neighbors with daily chores.
She conceived through IVF using donor eggs and her husband’s sperm, fulfilling her lifelong dream of motherhood at 70. Safina has expressed deep gratitude, saying her story is proof that no one can place limits on God’s power.
