It looked like an odd habit — but my grandfather’s spoon trick actually works wonders

“Why did Grandpa always grab a spoon after cleaning fish?” 🐟🥄 I thought it was just an old habit—until I learned the genius reason behind it. Turns out, this simple trick can save you from the worst kitchen smells… and you’ve probably had the solution in your drawer all along. Full story in the article 👇

Now it made sense to me why my grandfather would immediately pick up a tablespoon when cleaning fish.

We want to share with you a story that has become popular on the Internet:

“Fishing is not just a catch, it’s a whole adventure that brings people closer together and provides unforgettable memories. One of those moments, forever imprinted in my memory, is related to my grandfather.

Since childhood, I looked forward to summer holidays, when we would go to his cosy plot by the river. Dawns, birdsong, the aroma of freshly cut grass – all this created a unique atmosphere of tranquillity and unity with nature.

One of our favorite pastimes was, of course, fishing. My grandfather and I would spend hours on the bridge, casting our rods into the water.

Grandpa was a skillful fisherman. He knew all the secrets of the river, was able to guess the places where fish congregated, and his bait was always the most attractive.

But what particularly impressed me was his ritual after fishing.

As soon as Grandpa cleaned the fish, he would immediately pick up a tablespoon. Twirling it between his fingers, he would rub it on his palms for 30 seconds. And only then would he wash his hands.

I didn’t understand this trick, but many years later, thanks to a friend, I learnt the secret of my grandfather’s spoon.

I happened to notice that my friend also does this ritual after cleaning the fish! My surprise knew no bounds and I immediately asked: “Why? How does it work?”

In response, my friend pulled a bar of food-grade stainless steel soap out of the kitchen cabinet and said: ‘This is the thing people buy on the internet, even though everyone has regular spoons at home!’

There’s no secret. Stainless steel doesn’t stand out in any way, but the alloy itself, used in the food industry, interacts perfectly with acids that emit odours. This material quickly neutralises acids, which means it quickly removes any unpleasant odours from the skin. Understandably, your hands remain dirty, but odourless. You do not need to use a lot of detergents to get rid of the smell of fish, just rub the spoon in your hands for a minute – between your fingers, on the palms of your hands and in all the places where the odour is felt. And then – wash with ordinary soap.

It turns out that an ordinary stainless steel tablespoon is not just a cutlery, but a real odour fighter!

Today, I am happy to use this granddaddy’s life style, remembering it with warmth and gratitude.”

Stainless Steel Spoon Facts:

Stainless steel used in the food industry contains chromium.

Chromium, when it comes into contact with air and water, forms an oxide that neutralises acids and odours.

The stainless steel spoon not only eliminates the smell of fish, but also helps to cope with garlic and onion odours.

For best effect, it is recommended to rub your hands dry with the spoon for a minute and then wash them with soap and water.

Despite the lack of definitive scientific evidence, many people claim that using a stainless steel spoon does help to get rid of odours.
