Our story follows a 67-year-old pensioner from Sweden who has called the same two-bedroom apartment home for over three decades.
The building she resides in was constructed in 1914, and while its architecture is traditional, the real charm lies in a small yet significant detail—a flower shop that’s been open since the 1940s. Generations of local families have passed through its doors, adding to the building’s nostalgic feel.
The apartment spans 51 square meters, with shared facilities like a laundry room located on the ground floor—a common feature in Swedish buildings where apartments often lack in-unit washing machines. Additionally, each resident has access to a small storage space in the attic.

The Living Room: Where the Past Meets the Present
Let’s begin with the living room, which is larger than the bedroom and was once the gathering spot for the entire family. This room features a traditional ceramic-tiled stove, which was refurbished in the 2010s, ensuring its continued functionality. Though not a common feature in Scandinavian homes, the owner has added curtains to bring warmth and privacy to the space.
In this room, the blend of history and modernity is evident. The old tiled stove, made of brass parts that are more than a century old, adds character, while a modern IKEA armchair and sofa cover bring in some freshness. The small library and record cabinet reflect a love for vintage charm.
Kitchen: A Slice of Nostalgia
The kitchen, a fixture since the 1970s when the current owner’s parents lived here, still boasts its original cabinetry, though it has been repainted in a light olive color. Open shelves offer practical storage and a nostalgic look at a style that’s lasted for decades.
