Historic Jewels and Kate’s New Glow — A Night to Remember

Kate Middleton caused a sensation on the Royal Variety Performance red carpet, appearing in a rich emerald velvet gown. The prestigious event, held at the Royal Albert Hall, marked her and Prince William’s first joint public appearance since the autumn of 2023.

The couple last attended the show a year ago — before the Princess temporarily stepped away from public engagements. The following season, King Charles III upheld the tradition by representing the royal family at the performance.

This year, the couple made a clear statement of unity: Kate wore a deep green velvet dress with minimalist sleeves and a plunging neckline, while William opted for a black velvet tuxedo echoing the style of her gown.

The Princess’s dress, created by Talbot Runhof, featured a mermaid-style hem, soft draping, and delicate ruffles. She wore her hair loose and placed the emphasis on historical jewelry with strong family significance.

Kate appeared in the iconic Greville Chandelier earrings — a piece gifted to Princess Elizabeth on her wedding day. She paired them with an antique diamond bracelet-necklace by Cartier that once belonged to Queen Mary. The look was completed with elegant velvet Manolo Blahnik heels.

Before the program began, Kate was greeted by nine-year-old sisters Olivia and Emily Edwards, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers. The girls were chosen because their families are connected to the well-known charitable institution Brinsworth House.

William and Kate’s arrival was accompanied by ceremonial fanfare, followed by a performance of the national anthem by Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins. Comedian Jason Manford hosted the evening, presenting a dynamic and diverse lineup.

Guests were treated to a preview of the new Paddington musical and a rare appearance by Jessie J — her first time on stage following her battle with cancer and a recent mastectomy.

Funds raised during the evening will support performers and entertainment industry workers. In recent years, the Royal Variety Charity has focused particularly on aiding those experiencing emotional and psychological challenges.

The Royal Variety Performance has a history spanning more than a century. First held in 1912, the show has consistently welcomed members of the royal family. Over the decades, its stage has seen both legendary classical artists and global pop icons — including The Beatles, whose 1963 appearance remains one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history.
