The 50-year-old Spanish star shared a unique selfie capturing a warm moment with Johnny during the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival. This reunion occurs 23 years after they played a volatile married couple in the 2001 film Cocaine, helmed by Ted Demme.
In that film, Depp portrayed the actual criminal George Young, who became infamous as a drug importer for the Medellin cartel during the 1970s. Cruz played his Cuban spouse, Myrtle Jung. The movie swiftly earned its status as a classic, thanks to its gripping storyline.

The cast also included Franca Potente as Barbara āBarbieā Buckley and a young Emma Roberts as Christine Sunshine Young, the daughter of Cruz and Deppās characters. Jamie King portrayed the adult Christina.
At the festival, Cruz was spotted at the opening ceremony with her husband, Javier Bardem. Depp attended to promote his latest film, Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madness, a biographical drama about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, which he also directed. The screenplay was adapted from a play by Dennis McIntyre, with contributions from Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

Earlier this year, Cruz expressed her contentment with her current self, although she reminisced about the carefree nature of her youth. She shared her preference for her present relationship with herself compared to her earlier years.
āIf you ask me about my relationship with myself now versus how it was in my 20s or 30s, I would honestly choose now. I appreciate how I feel about myself today, which I might not have said at different points in my life. I embrace each decade and every moment, and I never think, āI used to be better,āā Penelope reflected.

While she is pleased with her growth and evolution, Cruz admitted to missing the carefree spirit of her younger days. She acknowledged that although some experiences have been challenging, she views them as valuable lessons.
āSometimes I long for the kind of spontaneity that came with being young. All the things Iāve learned and the obstacles Iāve facedāsome of which were difficultāare part of my ongoing journey,ā she told the Daily Mail.
