The Checkers Inn, Depp’s new venture, was previously owned by Paul Hollywood, the host of the British baking show The Great British Bake Off. The pub was purchased for a hefty sum of one million pounds (approximately 1.2 million euros). However, locals are unhappy, complaining that the pub has become too expensive since Depp took over. Many believe this might not have been the best decision for the actor.

This isn’t Depp’s first foray into the bar business. Back in the early 1990s, he co-founded the Viper Room in Los Angeles, a hotspot frequented by celebrities like Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt. However, the Viper Room gained infamy after the tragic death of 23-year-old actor River Phoenix, who died of an overdose outside the venue in 1993. Depp has also struggled with substance abuse issues over the years.
