Chaz Bono, the eldest child of music legend Cher, has officially tied the knot with his longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes.
The 57-year-old actor and writer married Mathes on March 8 after nine years together. Shortly after the ceremony, the couple shared their first wedding photo, giving fans a glimpse of the celebration.
The newlyweds posed on the rooftop of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Bono appeared in a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie, while Mathes wore a traditional white wedding gown featuring a lace bodice and a full satin skirt. Her dark curls were styled beneath a delicate veil, and many observers immediately noticed that the look carried a striking resemblance to Cher’s signature style.
The couple’s story stretches back decades.
Bono and Mathes first met more than forty years ago while studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Although life eventually took them in different directions, their paths crossed again years later. In January 2017, Bono publicly confirmed their romantic relationship.
Their wedding ceremony was attended by close family and friends, including Cher herself. The 79-year-old icon reportedly watched from the front row as the couple exchanged vows at the end of an aisle decorated with glowing red candles and floral arrangements.
Following the ceremony, the couple is said to be planning a honeymoon trip to Hawaii.
Despite the many changes in his life over the years, Bono remains very close to his famous mother. Cher has consistently shown support for him and his partner, often appearing alongside them at public events.
In December of last year, Bono and Mathes attended a theater event in Beverly Hills where Cher presented her memoirs. The trio also walked the red carpet together in October 2024 at the premiere of the horror film Little Bites, a project produced by both Cher and Bono.
While Bono’s life has settled into a stable and happy chapter, the situation surrounding his younger brother Elijah Blue Allman has been more complicated. The 48-year-old has faced legal trouble this year, including two arrests related to alleged incidents involving trespassing, threats and disorderly conduct.
For Cher, however, the wedding marked a joyful family moment as she watched her eldest child begin a new chapter.
