Mickey Rourke, now 72, has gone viral again. The actor posted a new photo, and even his most devoted fans didn’t recognize him right away: his face looks stretched like a mask, his forehead is completely smooth, and his cheekbones seem carved out of plastic.
When 9½ Weeks premiered in the 1980s, Rourke was the symbol of male beauty. Dark hair, dangerous eyes, magnetic presence — he drove women crazy. Hollywood called him “the new James Dean,” and directors lined up for the chance to work with him.

But at the peak of his fame, Mickey left acting and rushed into boxing. The decision turned out to be disastrous: a broken nose, shattered cheekbones, scars — his legendary looks literally fell apart piece by piece.

This was the beginning of his obsession with plastic surgery. At first he tried to repair the injuries, then he tried to bring back the man he used to be. But the more procedures he underwent, the further he moved away from his real face. “I trusted the wrong doctors,” he admitted later.

After leaving boxing, Rourke fell into a deep depression: Hollywood turned its back on him, and his money went into surgical experiments. Surgery became his attempt to start life over, but only intensified the internal crisis.

In 2024 he shocked everyone again — but not with a role. A photo taken before a show revealed a face that looked like a wax figure. The internet laughed at his wig, while those close to him worried: “He’s living in the past and can’t stop.”

Today he is surrounded only by his dogs and his assistant Dima. Children, marriages, career — all of it is behind him. But fans still believe that somewhere beneath the layers of plastic surgery lives the same daring heartthrob from the 1980s.
