Back in 1975, at the height of their fame, actress Goldie Hawn and a well-known musician met unexpectedly on a flight from New York to Los Angeles. The spark was instant.
The musician, part of the popular group The Hudson Brothers, had already performed with top acts like The Beach Boys and The Monkees. He’d also dabbled in acting. That day on the plane, he was struck by Goldie’s charm, and by evening, he had asked her out to dinner. He later shared that the chemistry between them was undeniable and that their physical connection played a huge role in the fast-paced start to their relationship.
A year later, in 1976, Goldie and the musician tied the knot, just as they were expecting their first child. But the joy was quickly followed by fear. During delivery, their son suffered from meconium aspiration — a dangerous condition where a baby inhales fluid during birth. Doctors feared the worst, but after days in intensive care, their little boy pulled through. To the couple, he was nothing short of a miracle.
Their daughter arrived three years later, and for a time, they enjoyed being a family of four. But cracks began to show in their marriage. In 1981, everything changed when the musician discovered that Goldie had been unfaithful. According to him, she confessed early on that she didn’t believe in monogamy and preferred an open relationship — something he wasn’t comfortable with. “I wanted a traditional marriage,” he later said, “but she wasn’t interested.”
They went their separate ways, and in 1983, Goldie started dating actor Kurt Russell. Though they had met before on a film set, their relationship didn’t begin until years later. In 1986, they had a son, Wyatt.
Blending their families wasn’t easy. Goldie’s daughter recalled feeling confused when introduced to Kurt’s son and wondering if that made him her brother. It was a lot for a child to take in.
After the divorce, Goldie’s children from her first marriage began to feel abandoned by their biological father. Despite the drama, Kurt has fully embraced his role as a grandfather to Kate and Oliver’s kids. And while Bill continues to carry resentment, Kate and Oliver have chosen to leave the past behind and focus on the close bond they’ve formed with Kurt.
