Let me share a cozy homemade dessert that’s both incredibly easy to whip up and made entirely from ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. The result? A soft, fragrant, and mouthwateringly good cake that brings cozy comfort with every bite.

Apples and chocolate might seem like an unexpected pair—but once you try them together in this cake, you’ll understand the magic.

What You’ll Need:

For the dough:

180g of high-fat butter (82%)

200ml of kefir (2.5% fat)

3 egg yolks

½ tsp each of salt, vanilla sugar, and baking soda

250g of all-purpose flour

For the filling:

1 kg of apples

100–120g of sugar (adjust depending on the sweetness of your apples)

100g of chopped walnuts and golden raisins

1 tsp of cinnamon

Zest from half a lemon

A splash of lemon juice

For the chocolate glaze:

100ml milk

30g butter

4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

4 tbsp sugar

How to Make It:

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

Chop the butter into pieces and mix it into the flour using your hands until it resembles crumbs. In a separate bowl, mix the kefir with baking soda, salt, vanilla sugar, and egg yolks. Combine the wet and dry mixtures, knead the dough, then wrap it and refrigerate for an hour.

Step 2: Make the Filling

Peel and grate the apples on a coarse grater. Lightly squeeze out the juice to avoid a soggy cake. Add cinnamon, lemon zest, raisins, chopped walnuts, and a bit of lemon juice. Stir everything well. Add sugar just before assembling the cake.

Step 3: Assemble the Layers

Divide the dough into three equal parts. Roll each one out to fit your baking pan (mine was 20×25 cm). Line the pan with parchment paper. Place the first layer of dough, followed by half of the apple filling, then the second dough sheet, the rest of the filling, and finally the last layer of dough on top.

Step 4: Bake

Put it straight into the oven after preheating at 180°C (356°F) for about 40 minutes.

Step 5: Prepare the Glaze

About 10 minutes before the cake is done, combine the milk, sugar, and cocoa in a small saucepan. Keep mixing without stopping over low heat until the mixture thickens. Remove the pan from the heat source, add the butter, and stir until it’s completely melted and creamy.

Step 6: Final Touch

Once the cake is out of the oven, spread the melted topping evenly over the cake right in the pan. Could you let it set completely before slicing?

This cake is a true comfort dessert—sweet, spiced, and just the right amount of indulgent. Enjoy every bite!

Happy baking!
