Are you tired of seeing the bananas you just bought turn black in several days?🍌🤢 It is quite annoying as you pay a lot but it takes only little time for them to spoil! 👎😤 After having tried dozens of methods, I asked my friend and she shared how she kept them fresh for as long as she wanted! 🤌🤭 It worked for me too and I am going to share that super trick with you in this article! 👇
How many times have you bought bananas, only to watch them quickly turn black within a couple of days? It’s so annoying, especially when you hand-pick them and pay for them, only for them to spoil so quickly. I’ve tried countless methods, and none have worked! If I buy just a few, they’re gone too soon, but if I get more, they sit around and ripen too fast. Even storing them in the fridge seems to make them spoil quicker.
I’ve used bananas in smoothies, baked goods, porridge, and even paired them with pancakes—but those are just short-term fixes to avoid wasting them.
In the past, I was told to wrap the stems in plastic wrap, but that didn’t help at all. The bananas still rotted. I even tried wrapping the stems in foil, but the results were the same: they darkened in just a few days.
Then, one day, while shopping at a supermarket, I bumped into a friend from school who works in the produce section. I shared my frustration with her about how quickly the bananas turned black. I wondered if it was just the quality of the fruit.
She explained to me that the issue wasn’t with the bananas themselves and revealed a clever way to preserve them.
“Have you noticed where the blackening starts? Right at the stem. That’s the problem. It’s the point where the bunch is cut from the plant, which creates a wound. This cut gets infected, and that’s where bacteria begin to grow. They need warmth, air, light, and food to thrive. Neither plastic wrap nor foil can prevent this. The key is to seal the cut.”
Her solution? “Dip the stem in melted wax and let it harden. This simple step will keep your bananas fresh for up to two weeks. When you peel them, there’s no need to remove the wax; just discard it with the peel.”
The wax is completely safe and harmless, both for the fruit and for humans. Underneath the wax, the environment is nearly sterile, and without air, bacteria struggle to survive.
Now, thanks to this simple trick, my bananas stay fresh much longer!
