Reviving old furniture doesn’t always require bold colors or modern paint jobs. Sometimes, embracing the natural beauty of wood is the perfect way to breathe new life into a piece while keeping it timeless and elegant. That’s exactly what a man did when he transformed a worn-out Soviet armchair into a stylish and cozy addition to his home.

From him:
I came across this armchair in a classified ad. It had seen better days, but I knew it had potential. I already had some old sofa cushions lying around, so I resized and covered them with syntepon for extra softness. I bought new fabric and support straps to restore the seating.

The original varnish had a matte finish, which I stripped off using Prestige remover, scraping it off layer by layer about three or four times. After that, I smoothed the surface with a grinder and finished it off with fine manual sanding. To preserve the wood’s natural beauty, I applied three coats of oil with hard wax.

For the final touch, I sewed custom cushion covers, reassembled everything, and placed the armchair in a cozy corner under the staircase. To complete the setup, I even put together a vintage-style floor lamp. Now, I have the perfect reading nook—comfortable, stylish, and full of character!

A beautifully restored piece that blends effortlessly into a modern interior while retaining its vintage charm. It’s inspiring to see what can be achieved with skill, patience, and a little creativity!
