In 1973, Grant settled in the small mining town of Moab. At just 17, he had dropped out of school, a common choice among many in search of work elsewhere.
After years of working as a miner, Grant eventually married and started a family, deciding that he didn’t want to leave Grant County. Despite the town’s modest population of 4,000, Grant remained firm in his resolve to stay.
To pursue his vision, he purchased a vast 16-hectare plot of barren land, a move that puzzled many. For a considerable time, the family lived in a trailer while Grant got to work. He began digging into the cave and started his own business.
Through his relentless efforts, Grant managed to create a 450-square-meter living space. The home has since become one of the area’s most extraordinary landmarks, even earning recognition as a “national park.”
