Catherine, Princess of Wales stepped back onto the international stage this week with a highly symbolic appearance in Italy — and the moment immediately drew global attention.
The 44-year-old Princess of Wales arrived in the small Italian city of Reggio Emilia for an official visit, marking her first solo overseas tour since overcoming cancer. Her last independent international trip took place back in 2022, when she visited Denmark before her illness.
And from the second she stepped out in the town square, people couldn’t stop talking about her appearance.

Kate chose an elegant powder-blue pantsuit paired with a white blouse featuring a deep V-shaped neckline and sharp lapels. The tailored outfit, known as the Lola design by Edeline Lee, reportedly cost around £2,000 and quickly became one of her most discussed fashion choices in months.
The structured blazer with draped detailing across the back added a softer touch to the formal silhouette, while a bright blue leather handbag and pointed high heels from Ralph Lauren completed the polished look.

But it wasn’t only the fashion that captured attention.
The Princess appeared relaxed and visibly energized as she greeted local officials, including the mayor of Reggio Emilia, before stopping to interact with children waiting along Piazza Camillo Prampolini. At one point, she even paused to take a selfie with a member of the crowd before disappearing inside the city hall building.
For many royal watchers, the visit carried much deeper meaning than a routine appearance.

The two-day trip is being seen as an important step in Kate’s gradual return to large-scale public duties following her recovery. During the visit, she is expected to receive a special award from the mayor as part of the Primo Tricolore project in recognition of her work supporting early childhood development.
Back in 2021, the princess launched the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, an initiative focused on improving emotional and social development for young children. As part of her schedule in Italy, she will also visit schools dedicated to children under the age of five.
People close to the royal household reportedly described the visit as the beginning of a significant new chapter for her public role after months away from intensive royal engagements.
And the atmosphere surrounding her arrival made that obvious.

Crowds gathered across the square to welcome the British royal guest, while local officials described the tour as an important cultural moment between the United Kingdom and Italy.
Tomorrow, Kate is expected to meet residents in the countryside surrounding Reggio Emilia and take part in a traditional village lunch, where she will reportedly learn how to make fresh pasta by hand. The region is widely known as one of Italy’s culinary capitals and the birthplace of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
But long before the pasta-making begins, one thing already became clear from today’s appearance — Kate Middleton’s return to solo royal tours is officially underway.
