Daisy and Violet Hilton were born in 1908 in England, physically joined at the lower back and pelvis. Soon after their birth, their mother gave them to Mary Hilton, a woman who ran a pub. Instead of raising them like her own, Mary turned their lives into a public show, putting them on display to earn money.
The girls grew up in strict and often harsh conditions, constantly traveling and performing under the control of others. It wasn’t until 1931 that they gained their freedom through a legal battle and began managing their own careers on stage.
Though they found some fame in entertainment, finding love wasn’t as easy. Both sisters married different men, but sadly, neither marriage lasted. Many people believed these relationships were more about publicity than real romance.
There were rumors about Violet’s wedding day—some say she was expecting a child. According to unconfirmed stories, she later gave birth but gave the baby up for adoption. The identity and life of this child remain unknown, as the sisters never spoke about it.
Over time, their public appearances faded, and they eventually took jobs as cashiers in a grocery store in Charlotte, North Carolina. Their final public show was in 1961.
Tragically, both sisters died within days of each other in January 1969 after contracting the Hong Kong flu. Daisy passed away first, and Violet, still physically connected to her sister, died shortly after. Medical reports revealed that she had only outlived Daisy by a couple of days.
Their story is one of fame, struggle, and a deep, inseparable bond.
