“He stood nearly 3 meters tall—and built a house to match” 🏡📏 Fyodor Makhnov was once the tallest man in the world, but behind the record-breaking height was a powerful story of love, struggle, and a life few could truly understand. You won’t believe what his daily routine looked like—or how his story ended. See the full journey in the article below 👇
In the 19th century, a man named Fyodor Makhnov became known across the world for his incredible height. He was believed to be around 285 cm tall—making him one of the tallest people in history.
As a young boy, Fyodor lived with his grandparents in a village and looked just like any other child. But everything changed when he turned eight—his body suddenly started to grow at an unusual speed. By the time he was 14, he was already more than 2.5 meters tall.

When Fyodor turned 16, a talent scout from Germany noticed him and offered him a job performing in a circus. He traveled around Europe, with the circus providing him food, clothing, and pay. But despite the fame, Fyodor longed for a quieter life and eventually returned home in 1903.
Back in his homeland, he bought a piece of land and built a house designed specifically for his massive size. He was a gentle man who dreamed of having a family, but finding a partner wasn’t easy—many women were scared off by his height.

Eventually, he met and married Efrosinya Lebedeva, a teacher who was tall herself at 180 cm. Together, they had five children. Surprisingly, none of the kids grew taller than two meters.
Fyodor was also known for his huge appetite. On an average day, he would eat eight loaves of bread, twenty eggs, and large amounts of meat, fruit, and drinks. Before bed, he’d have another loaf of bread, fifteen eggs, and a liter of tea or milk.

Even though he had great physical strength, Fyodor’s life was short. He passed away at the age of 34 in 1912 due to a lung illness.
