The eldest son of screen legend Sophia Loren has tied the knot. Carlo Ponti Jr., 57, married fitness trainer Mariam Sharmanashvili in a romantic ceremony held in Georgia.

Their love story began four years ago, and over time, Carlo’s bond with Mariam grew so strong that he even embraced a new religion. The couple got engaged last year, but only recently celebrated their wedding in Mariam’s homeland.

The bride, who is 20 years younger than her groom, chose a classic ivory gown with long sleeves and a dramatic train. She completed the look with a traditional veil, adding timeless elegance to her appearance.

Carlo wore a sharp suit layered with a hooded cape reminiscent of traditional Georgian wedding attire for men. The couple exchanged vows at a historic monastery in Mtskheta, which was closed to the public for 40 minutes to accommodate the private ceremony.

Mariam has a school-aged son from a previous relationship. This is Carlo’s second marriage — his first was to a Hungarian violinist, with whom he shares two children, a son and a daughter. That union ended relatively quickly.

Despite the age gap, Sophia Loren has warmly welcomed Mariam into the family. The actress even invited her new daughter-in-law to the celebration of her 90th birthday.

Sophia and her late husband, Carlo Ponti Sr., had two sons. Their firstborn was named after his father, while their younger son, Edoardo, arrived four years later.
