Unforgettable Debbie was played by L. Easterbrook. But her journey is far richer than any single role — it’s a story of reinvention, resilience, and quiet determination. Born in Nebraska and adopted at just nine months old, she was raised in the heart of the American Midwest. Her adoptive parents — a music professor and an English teacher — fostered her early love of learning and the arts.
Growing up as an only child in a musical household, she was surrounded by harmony both literal and figurative. Initially dreaming of a career in opera, she attended Stephens College. But destiny had a different stage in mind. In 1980, she landed her first major television role as Rhonda on «Laverne & Shirley Lee» quickly becoming a standout in the show’s later seasons as the glamorous, quick-witted neighbor.

Her big breakthrough came shortly after «Police Academy» where she brought to life the commanding, attractive, and sharp-witted character. Though initially unsure she could embody such a powerful character, she rose to the challenge — and became a fan favorite. Off-screen, Easterbrook was just as disciplined. A dedicated athlete, she maintained her fitness through volleyball, horseback riding, and distance running — often logging 10-mile runs twice a week. She also took dance classes and trained regularly at the gym.

Even in Hollywood, Leslie kept her boundaries clear. For one film, she agreed to a contract that only allowed for partial nudity. Beyond acting, her talent as a vocalist also shone. Now 75, she has never officially stepped away from acting, though her appearances in recent years have been sparse. Her most recent role was in 2022, a quiet testament to a career that has never been about fading away — only evolving.
