You never know what youâll find lurking in your backyardâespecially if you live in Florida. For 26-year-old Eugene Bozzi, what started as a regular day turned into a moment that made him internet-famous after he managed to catch an alligator using nothing more than a trash bin.
Eugene, reportedly a member of the U.S. Army, was at home when neighborhood kids came running to tell him there was something unusual behind the house. At first, he assumed it was a small gatorâpretty common in the area. But when he went outside, he was shocked to see a full-grown alligator roaming around near his home.

Knowing his own family and nearby neighbors could be at risk, Eugene didnât hesitate. Without any special tools or training, he grabbed the nearest object he could think ofâa large trash can.

Using the bin like a shield, Eugene approached the gator cautiously. As he inched forward, the alligator began backing up but snapped its jaws in defense. Undeterred, Eugene kept moving until the animal had nowhere left to go. Then, with perfect timing, he tilted the bin forward, and the gator slipped inside. A quick flip of the lid trapped the creature safely.
He later wheeled the trash canânow containing one very confused reptileâto a nearby pond and released it back into the wild where it belonged.

The entire event was caught on camera, and within hours the clip had racked up over five million views. People online quickly dubbed Eugene a hero, though he brushed off the praise. To him, it wasnât braveryâit was just common sense and quick thinking.
Interestingly, Eugene explained that he mimicked the wide mouth of a hippopotamus using the shape of the trash bin, figuring it might intimidate the gator. Whether by luck or clever instinct, it worked.

Social media exploded with reactions. Some applauded Eugeneâs bold response, others joked about how rare it is to see a positive Florida man headline, and many were simply shocked that alligators roam so freely near homes in the state.
So what do you thinkâwas it smart thinking, raw courage, or a bit of both? Would you have done the same? Let us know in the comments!
