We never expected pigs to resolve a neighborhood problem, but fate had other plans.
Years ago, our neighbor kept pigs at the far end of his property, near a small forest and a distant river. It was out of the way, causing no trouble for anyone. After a long break from pig farming, he decided to start again this year.
To our surprise, instead of rebuilding the pen in its old location, he chose to place it right next to the fence bordering our house. It was clearly more convenient for him, but living beside 30 pigs quickly became a nightmare for us.
Failed Attempts at a Peaceful Solution
We approached the neighbor and his wife, calmly explaining how disruptive the pigs were. Unfortunately, they dismissed our concerns, claiming we were just city dwellers complaining for no reason.
Not wanting to escalate the situation, we reluctantly endured the noise and smell, unsure of what else to do.
Piglets on the Loose
After about a month, the pigs unintentionally solved the problem themselves. The piglets, being natural diggers, created a hole beneath the fence. One morning, eight of them happily trotted into our yard, trampling flowerbeds and knocking over the swings.
But the real twist? Our Alabai dog spotted the chaos, squeezed through the same gap, and ended up in the neighbor’s yard.
An Unexpected Resolution
The commotion couldn’t be ignored. Once the piglets were back in their pen and our dog was safely home, the neighbor showed up, clearly embarrassed. Without any prompting, he apologized and promised to move the pen the very next day.
True to his word, he relocated the pigs to a more suitable spot. Even now, he occasionally mentions how guilty he feels about the whole ordeal.
Who would’ve guessed that a few adventurous piglets could succeed where polite conversation failed? Sometimes, the most unexpected situations bring the best solutions.
