Kevin Costner unexpectedly found himself sharing the same beach with his former wife Christine Baumgartner as they both came to support their teenage son.
The 71-year-old actor and his 52-year-old ex-wife attended 17-year-old Hayes’ beach volleyball tournament in Santa Barbara. Although they were occasionally only a few steps apart, the former couple appeared to deliberately avoid interacting with each other.

Costner kept things casual in a white T-shirt, slim white jeans, sunglasses and flip-flops. He relaxed in a folding chair overlooking the ocean, occasionally getting up to speak with other spectators and players. He was also photographed giving Hayes some advice during the tournament.
Christine wore a dark green T-shirt with distressed white jeans, a baseball cap, sunglasses and white slides.
Hayes appeared to move between his parents during breaks, spending time separately with both of them. After the tournament ended, he left the beach alongside his father, who carried a bag containing their folding chairs.

Costner and Baumgartner also share son Cayden, 19, and daughter Grace, 16. They divorced in 2023 after 18 years of marriage, with disagreements over finances, property and child support turning the separation into a highly publicized legal battle.
Christine has since married financier Josh Connor, who was previously a friend of Costner.
The actor has also moved on romantically. Following a reported brief relationship with actress Kelly Noonan, Costner was recently photographed with another blonde woman, later identified in media reports as a model and flight attendant.
Despite their complicated history and new relationships, Costner and Baumgartner put themselves in the same place for one reason — to support their son.
