Anne Hathaway has stepped in front of the camera with an image that feels far removed from the glamorous red-carpet style audiences usually associate with her. The 43-year-old actress, currently pregnant with her third child, stars on the September cover of Vogue China.
The most noticeable change is her hair. Hathaway appears with a short cut that dramatically alters her familiar appearance, while understated makeup gives the photographs a clean, natural feel and keeps attention firmly on her features.
The shoot arrives at a moment when Hathaway seems to be looking at both fame and her profession differently. After spending more than 25 years working as an actress, she admitted that her career once occupied a much larger place in the way she defined herself.
“For a long time, acting was my greatest love, and it was at the center of my sense of self,” she explained. Hathaway added that she now has another identity beyond her work as an actress, reflecting how much her priorities have evolved over the years.
That shift has also changed what she wants from Hollywood. Hathaway said she is no longer chasing attention for her career and doesn’t feel the same desire to demonstrate her worth to anyone. She continues accepting movie roles because acting itself remains something she truly loves.
There are major changes happening away from film sets too. Hathaway revealed this summer that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, are preparing to welcome their third child. The announcement has not stopped bizarre speculation online, with some people continuing to claim that the actress is supposedly faking her pregnancy.
Hathaway and Shulman married in 2012. They already share two sons: Jonathan, born in 2016, and Jack, who arrived three years later.
Long before starting her family with Shulman, Hathaway dated Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri for four years. Their relationship ended shortly before he was accused of a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme. Follieri ultimately received a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
At the time, reports claimed that Hathaway’s private diaries were included among materials connected with the investigation. The actress, however, was never charged with any wrongdoing. Years later, that turbulent period sits far behind her as she prepares for another child and approaches her Hollywood career without the pressure she says once defined it.
