Victoria and David Beckham have turned their latest Italian vacation into a journey back to the earliest days of their relationship. The couple returned to Portofino with their children, choosing a destination that carries special meaning for their family history.
Victoria, 52, and David, 51, checked into the same Portofino hotel where they secretly escaped together in 1997. At the time, their romance was still unknown to the public, and the footballer and Spice Girls singer chose the Italian resort for a private weekend away from the press.
“Back in Portofino, where it all started in 1997. I love you,” Victoria wrote alongside new vacation pictures with her husband. David also remembered that first trip, explaining that they had stayed at the hotel 29 years earlier before anyone knew they were dating.
This time, however, their Portofino getaway is very much a family affair. Their 21-year-old son Cruz is there with his 30-year-old girlfriend Jackie Apostel, while 23-year-old Romeo and 15-year-old Harper have also joined their parents in Italy.
One family member is noticeably absent. Cruz included an old photograph with brothers Romeo and Brooklyn among his vacation pictures. Brooklyn, who has reportedly not communicated with his family for almost two years, did not react to the post. Romeo reshared the nostalgic image on his own page, while Cruz’s decision to include it appeared to suggest that he misses his older brother.
Brooklyn, 27, is also spending his summer in Europe, although separately from the rest of the Beckhams. He has been traveling with his wife, Nicola Peltz, and recently spent time with her in Nice alongside Elton John.
David and Victoria first met in the winter of 1997. Their relationship quickly became one of the most famous celebrity romances of the era, and they married in the summer of 1999, when their eldest son Brooklyn was four months old.
The couple later welcomed Romeo, Cruz and Harper. Their marriage has survived decades of intense public attention, including widely discussed rumors in the early 2000s concerning David and his former assistant Rebecca Loos. Despite the controversies, Victoria and David remain one of show business’s longest-lasting celebrity couples — and 29 years later, they have now returned to the place where their story quietly began.
