Nina Dobrev has surprised fans with a striking change in appearance. The Vampire Diaries star has left her familiar brunette look behind and gone blonde, revealing the transformation in a series of behind-the-scenes photos from her latest project.
The new hairstyle is connected to the romantic comedy It Happened One Summer, in which Dobrev will play the leading character, Piper Bellinger. The actress showed off her lighter hair while sharing glimpses from the set on social media.
“I never thought I’d be blonde. Never say never,” Nina admitted on Instagram. She also joked about the familiar saying that blondes supposedly have “more fun,” suggesting she may now have a chance to test the theory herself.
Dobrev’s appearance has attracted plenty of discussion before. For years, people online have compared older and newer photos of the actress, particularly focusing on changes around her eyes. In 2020, some began speculating that she had undergone blepharoplasty after noticing that her eyes appeared more open and her eyebrows looked higher.
The actress herself denied those claims. Nina has maintained that she prefers beauty and skincare treatments rather than plastic surgery, rejecting speculation that cosmetic surgery was responsible for the changes people noticed.
The 37-year-old Bulgarian-born actress became internationally famous for playing Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in The Vampire Diaries. Her relationship with co-star Ian Somerhalder also generated enormous interest. They dated for several years before separating in 2013, reportedly because they wanted different things from life. Nina has said Ian was ready for marriage and a family while she wanted to concentrate on her career.
More recently, Dobrev was engaged to snowboarder Shaun White, 39. Their relationship lasted five years, but the engagement ended last year. Now, with a new leading role and a dramatically different blonde look, the actress is entering another visibly different chapter both on and off screen.
