David walked straight up to Richard.
Without saying a word, he took the package from his hand.
For a moment, everyone thought he was going to hand it back to me.
Instead…
He looked Richard directly in the eyes.
Then dropped the package into Richard’s lap.
“You know,” David said calmly, “my wife wore those for almost two years after our twins were born.”
The room fell completely silent.
Richard’s smile disappeared.
David continued.
“And do you know what I did?”
“I bought them.”
“I carried them into the house.”
“I made sure she never felt embarrassed.”
“Because she gave birth to my children.”
Nobody spoke.
Another friend quietly looked down at the floor.
David wasn’t finished.
“You think this is funny?”
“Your wife risked her body bringing three children into this world.”
“She cooks for your friends.”
She cleans this house.”
“She raises your babies.”
“And this is how you repay her?”
Richard tried to laugh it off.
“Come on, Dave…”
But David cut him off.
“No.”
“This isn’t a joke.”
“This is cruelty.”
He turned to the other men.
“If any of you laughed because you thought this was normal…”
“It isn’t.”
One by one, the smiles around the room disappeared.
Finally, another friend stood.
“My wife had the same problem after our son.”
A third quietly admitted,
“So did mine.”
Within seconds, what Richard had mocked became something nearly every father in the room recognized.
Richard suddenly found himself alone.
He looked at me.
For the first time all evening…
He looked ashamed.
He quietly apologized.
Not because I demanded it.
Because every man he respected had just shown him exactly what being a husband was supposed to look like.
David picked up his jacket before leaving.
As he reached the front door, he turned back one last time.
“A real man never humiliates the woman who sacrificed her body to build his family.”
No one said another word.
That night, the football match ended.
But the lesson everyone remembered had nothing to do with the score.
