Melania Trump has been in the public eye ever since the 1990s when she started dating Donald Trump. At that time, Melania was a model, but her life would change dramatically once she became the wife of the famous businessman and later the First Lady of the United States. With that transformation came a complete evolution in her style.
Let’s take a look at the evolution of Melania’s fashion choices— from her first steps on the red carpet to her iconic looks as First Lady.

When Melania first began appearing in public in the late 1990s, her style was very much in line with that of other models of the time. Bold cuts, high heels, and body-hugging outfits were staples of her wardrobe. Her first appearance at the 2001 Academy Awards was a defining moment for her fashion sense. At the time, the daring neckline of her dress wasn’t something out of the ordinary for Melania.

She appeared at the Oscars ceremony wearing a form-fitting white gown adorned with sparkling sequins. The dress had a deep V-neck that mirrored the slit running down the center, which was the perfect blend of elegance and allure.
By February 2007, Melania demonstrated a more glamorous side of her style at a fashion week event. Photographed alongside Donald Trump, she stunned onlookers with an all-black ensemble. Her hat and cloak were decorated with fluffy details, while knee-high boots completed the chic winter look.

In 2015, during a special appearance on Barbara Walters’ show, Melania fully embodied the role of the wife of a political figure. After Donald Trump announced his bid for presidency that summer, both he and Melania appeared in “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2015.” For the interview, Melania chose a simple pink dress with short sleeves and a modest neckline, complemented by matching pink pointed-toe heels.

At the inauguration of her husband in 2017, Melania wore a light blue dress from the Ralph Lauren Collection. The ensemble included a bolero and matching gloves, and her silhouette echoed the elegance of Jacqueline Kennedy’s inaugural style when she was First Lady.

For the inauguration in 2025, Melania arrived in a custom-made navy coat designed by Adam Lippes, which was both regal and modern, a striking contrast to the more traditional looks of previous First Ladies.
