“Skull Man”: a man spent 6,000 euros on body modifications

Sandro from the town of Finsterwalde, Germany, calls himself “skull-faced”—and his appearance truly lives up to the nickname. He has spent more than 13 years and around six thousand euros creating his extravagant look.

At first he was simply interested in tattoos, but over time the hobby grew into a real passion for body modifications. Sandro has undergone more than seventeen procedures: silicone implants were placed under his skin, and metal mounts were embedded in his skull so spikes can be screwed on. Later he implanted a payment chip in his wrist, as well as implants in his forehead and on the backs of his hands. The most extreme procedure was the removal of his ears—they’re now kept at his home in a jar.

Sandro says he doesn’t regret his decisions, though he understands the consequences. His unusual appearance makes it hard to find a job and often provokes wariness in others. Even so, he sees modifications as a form of self-expression and urges anyone considering such changes to think very carefully, since you can’t get your former appearance back.
