Carol Howarth, a resident of Haverfordwest, UK, thought she was making a routine stop when she parked her car to do some shopping. But when she returned, she was met with an astonishing sight—her vehicle had been completely taken over by an uninvited swarm of bees.
Local passerby Tom Moses happened to witness the bizarre event. “It was incredible—people had gathered around, taking pictures,” he recalled. “But I was concerned. The car was parked near a pub, and I worried that someone might panic and try to harm the bees, which could have been disastrous.”
To ensure their safety, Tom quickly reached out to a group of beekeepers, who arrived to carefully collect the swarm and relocate them to a secure area.
Just when Carol thought the ordeal was over, she woke up the next morning to find that the bees had tracked her car all the way home. This time, she had no choice but to call the experts again.
Roger Burns, one of the beekeepers involved, explained that the swarm had likely followed the car because their queen had somehow become trapped inside—possibly drawn in by something sweet. With around 2,000 bees devotedly trailing their leader, they refused to leave until she was freed.
The beekeepers were finally able to locate and release the queen, allowing the swarm to return to their natural habitat. While bees instinctively follow their queen, experts found it highly unusual for them to pursue a moving vehicle over such a long distance—not once, but twice.
It was an unforgettable experience for Carol, and an extraordinary demonstration of nature’s fascinating loyalty.
