Few know that it was his father’s cherished dream to make his son a real-life doctor.

Born in June 1959, he was the youngest son of Dr. William Laurie, who was a doctor. He even won the Olympic gold medal and had graduated from a Cambridge University institution. The future actor attended the same university.
Nevertheless, he decided not to follow in his father’s career footsteps. Soon, Hugh started to enroll himself into a theatrical club where he first met Emma Thompson known for her role in «The Remains of the Day».
