A unique girl named Melanie from the USA immediately after birth was faced with a rare diagnosis: Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome, in which people have unusually large pupils. Her gaze both fascinated and frightened people all over the world, and because of her eyes she was called an alien.
Due to the syndrome, Melanie’s pupils are sensitive to sunlight and therefore she always remains indoors. The girl underwent several operations to preserve her vision. Doctors did everything possible to provide Melanie with a full life.
She always goes outside only wearing special sunglasses, and also wears glasses in everyday life. These changes allowed her to enjoy moments outdoors.
Over the years, Melanie has grown and changed a lot. Now she is practically no different from her friends, and her look is no longer so strange to others. However, the girl’s eyes still remain unique.
