Kate Middleton and Prince William have embarked on a truly royal getaway this summer — cruising aboard what’s considered the most secretive megayacht in the world.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by their three children — Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7) — as well as Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, for a luxurious family escape. The group arrived by private jet at Kefalonia Airport in Greece before quietly boarding the superyacht Opera.

Measuring 479 feet in length, Opera ranks as the tenth-largest yacht in the world and is renowned for its discreet design — with almost nothing publicly known about its lavish interior. The vessel is owned by the royal family of Abu Dhabi, specifically the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Built in Germany in 2023, the yacht features a private pool and two helipads, and has been dubbed a “floating palace” — fitting for a royal voyage.

Unlike other megayachts, Opera is not available for charter, suggesting the invitation to cruise aboard the vessel was extended personally by its owners — and gratefully accepted by the British royals.

However, the optics of such an extravagant trip may raise questions, particularly given the yacht’s massive carbon footprint. Just weeks ago, Prince William publicly advocated for urgent climate action — making the family’s travel choice potentially controversial in the eyes of environmental activists.

The getaway follows a significant chapter in Kate’s life: her recovery from cancer. The Princess of Wales recently spoke candidly about her health battle and ongoing healing process — making this family retreat a well-earned moment of peace and joy after a challenging year.
