Weddings are usually planned down to the last detail, but sometimes the most memorable moments come from what you can’t plan.
That’s exactly what happened to Alex Schilke and Sarah Hipke, whose big day took a wild turn in Lake Geneva when the skies suddenly turned dark and a tornado warning sent everyone scrambling.
As the storm rolled in, the newlyweds and their guests were rushed to the safety of the hotel’s basement. Coincidentally, another group—a family reunion—was already gathered down there. It could’ve been a disaster, with the power out, nerves on edge, and the first dance nowhere in sight.
But then, something incredible happened.
One of the reunion guests, Jack Jones, happened to have his guitar with him. Spotting the bride and groom in the crowd, he stepped up and turned the shelter into a dance floor. With flashlight beams and phone torches lighting the space, he played live music for the couple’s first dance, creating a once-in-a-lifetime moment no one saw coming.
Jack later shared, “They hadn’t had their first dance yet. I had my guitar and offered to play. The power was gone, but everyone pitched in with light to make the moment beautiful. I’m just honored to have been part of something so special.”
