The couple’s journey began in 1981 while working together on the TV show Bosom Buddies. At the time, Hanks was married to his first wife, Samantha Lewes, but he quickly formed a strong bond with Wilson. Hanks has spoken fondly of their early connection, sharing in an interview, “Right from the start, I thought there was something really special about her. I met her and thought, ‘Oh Lord, there’s something here.’”
After two years of dating, the couple tied the knot in 1988. They have since built a life together and have two children: Chester “Chet” Hanks and Truman Theodore Hanks.

When asked about the secret to their long-lasting love, both have humbly stated that it’s simply about enjoying each other’s company. “I wish there were a secret,” Hanks shared in a 2018 interview with People, “but we just like each other. I still can’t believe she goes out with me. If we were in high school, I’d never have the courage to talk to her.”
